PERFORMERS:

Fiddle Stories

Sponsored by the Métis Artists Collective in Ontario, Fiddle Stories is both a mentorship project and an exciting performance of old and uniquely Aboriginal forms of fiddle music.

Born of the early days of contact between Europeans and First Nations, the music is a true hybrid of the New and Old World. Through Fiddle Stories the oldest surviving traditions are being passed on from Aboriginal Elders to a new generation of musicians, so that these young people can, in turn, one day pass them on.  In the 2008, this exciting cross-generational group of Aboriginal Elders and Youth drawn from across Canada is performing together in concert.

André Giroux

From Sturgeon Falls Ontario, André and his partner Julie Lapointe enjoy
performing high-energy bluegrass, flat-picking and traditional country
music. They play their guitars and sing with their heart and soul which
explains the emotions they bring out in their audience. The speed and the
clean sound of André’s guitar amaze everyone who sees his performances.
He surely is a natural entertainer with quite the sense of humour. André
surely knows how to leave his audience with a smile.

Morning Star River
A Toronto based group, Morning Star River perform traditional Pow Wow dances with singing and drumming.  Members Eddy and Will Robinson, Theo McGregor, Jonah Robinson, Gabe Gaudet, DJ McGregor, Ian Akiwenzie, and Ryan McMahon bring a passion to their performances and workshops born of their inspiring personal journeys and their achievements as Aboriginal performers. The group has been dancing and giving workshops for nearly 16 years and received a 2004 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award nomination.
